Why Accessibility Is Important For Any Business

6th July, 2009 - Posted by Toya Turner -

Opening various communication channels to clients can only help a business become bigger and better.  When companies are inaccessible to the public, it becomes hard for customers to build trust in the business.  It also becomes hard for the public to provide feedback to the company.  Receiving feedback is very important when running a business.  Sincere feedback can help a company improve its products, services and other aspects of its business.  Without feedback it becomes hard for companies to measure clients’ response to campaigns or promos and it becomes hard to know people’s perception of the company and its products and services.

Some of the things that can make your business accessible to the public are: a website, email, and various social media accounts.

A website can be an informational website or a complete e-commerce website.  An informational website can help a great deal with a company’s branding efforts.  A full e-commerce website offers greater accessibility to clients.  The e-commerce website will help you reach more clients in more states without the need to open up multiple stores.  You can also wish to offer international shipping which then opens up your business to even more customers.

Email can be a very good communication tool for your business.   It helps people send you messages without the need to ring you up. Email is the perfect communication tool because you can draft your replies and your messages carefully before sending them.  With email, you have better control over the messages that you send out to the clients.  You can receive various emails from the public from feedback to inquiries.

Accounts with social networking sites also make your business more accessible to the public. Greater accessibility helps build trust, boost sales and establish a company’s image.

A phone hotline is also a good way to make your company more accessible.  A 24-hour number that people can call for their orders, inquiries or voice their concerns can be a very good business tool for business.

It’s not enough that companies make these communication channels available for the clients.  It is also important to ensure that the company website is intuitive and provide ease-of-use to the people.  It is all part of establishing better accessibility.  A website that is difficult to browse cancels out all your efforts to offer better accessibility to your clients. A phone hotline which doesn’t get answered after several rings can only get your clients frustrated.  An email sent to you that bounces back because your email capacity has been maximized can completely turn-off prospective clients.

To provide greater accessibility to the public, you may need to hire dedicated staff to ensure that all your communication channels are open and updated and that you are responsive to your clients.  You can hire a Virtual Assistant just for all these tasks.
